Internal Medicine Residency Program at
Weill Cornell Medical College

2010 Intern Match List

Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency website for the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center. A premiere residency program, we invite you to browse our website in an effort to understand the rich learning environment that awaits you on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Our traditions of excellence in clinical care provide an incomparable opportunity to learn from some of academic medicine’s greatest physicians in all specialties of medicine.

In 1998, The New York Hospital and The Presbyterian Hospital merged to form the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH), creating one of the largest and most comprehensive healthcare facilities in the world. The first full-asset merger of two world-class academic hospitals, NYPH hosts parallel graduate training programs at each hospital campus.

The residents within the Weill Cornell Medical College Department of Medicine provide care at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell while additionally benefiting from our affiliations with three other premier institutions immediately adjacent to the hospital: Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Hospital for Special Surgery, and The Rockefeller University Hospital. By interacting with these other prestigious institutions, residency training is enhanced in valuable ways through clinical rotations, research opportunities, mentorship by renowned investigators, and exposure to faculty who are experts in their fields. The Graduate Training Program in Internal Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell strives to foster a strong learning environment focused on clinical and academic excellence. Graduates of the program are highly successful clinical educators, physician-scientists, academic-clinicians, and leaders in medical administration.

The Residency Training Program places balanced emphasis on both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Medical House Staff rotate through the medical services at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, the preeminent rheumatology service at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and additional medical services at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. These sites offer a diverse patient population and outstanding faculty. Patients at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell come from all economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds. In addition to its role as a major tertiary care center, NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell serves as a primary care center for the diverse patient population of upper Manhattan and western Queens. Patients also come from the rest of the greater metropolitan area as well as from around the world.

The medical problems seen at the medical center encompass all areas of internal medicine, both common and unusual clinical problems. Our program offers the opportunity to care for such patients in the setting of a major research department with strengths in all medical subspecialties as well as in general medicine. We encourage trainees to build their clinical expertise and confidence by providing them with a safe environment in which to exercise independent, clinical decision-making.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center is located on Manhattan's Upper East Side, built on a platform above the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Drive overlooking the East River. It is flanked by our sister institutions — the Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and The Rockefeller University Hospital — in our backyard. Our hospital has over 800 beds with approximately 30 medical ICU beds. It is a beautiful building steeped in history and is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a vast array of online resources.
